Tough Competition in Prague

Today was the heats for World Cup #1 in Prague, Czech Republic. Heavy rain this morning but had excellent racing weather this afternoon with clear skies and reasonable temperatures.

I'm happy with my race but unfortunately did not qualify to race the semi finals on Sunday. My first run was solid apart from a mistake near the top where I had to back paddle between two gates where I was planning on going directly from gate to gate. I chose to spin this combination on my second run and it worked much better. My first run was clean with a time of 97.81 seconds which put me in 31st place. My second run was much faster with a raw time of 94.20 seconds plus 4 seconds in penalties.

The race format is best of two runs so my first run today was the one that counted. I finished the competition in 41st place. The touches on my second run were in upstream gates so if I was clean my raw time would have been similar. I'm very happy with the pace on my second run and had I been clean I would have placed 20th. But that's racing. I have to be fast AND clean.

I've got some flatwater training ahead of me for the next couple of days while the semi finals and finals take place. The team flies to Barcelona on Monday for World Cup #2 in La Seu D'Urgell.
